Virginia Highland

A small-town feel with its cozy atmosphere and friendly residents.

Welcome to Virginia Highland

Virginia-Highland – “VaHi” to locals – is a popular Intown Atlanta locale. So popular, in fact, that it’s often named a favorite among Atlanta residents. Its name comes from the two major avenues that intersect near the community center.

Situated in Intown’s East Side, Virginia-Highland is right next to the Midtown district. Downtown Atlanta is approximately 3.5 miles away. This ideal location makes it an excellent option for home buyers who want to enjoy the conveniences of an urban, commercial center while still keeping the hustle and bustle at arm’s length.

Virginia-Highland captures the “live, work, and play” lifestyle. It exudes a small-town feel with its cozy atmosphere and friendly residents. But as you explore its walkable blocks, its array of trendy shopping destinations, comfortable sidewalk cafés, and popular nightspots will remind you that you live in a vibrant, exciting city.

History of Virginia-Highland

The area we know today as Virginia-Highland was first settled in 1812 when a 202.5-acre expanse of land was purchased by American pioneers for agricultural use.

In the late 1800s, the development of the “Nine Mile Circle” streetcar line helped spur development in Virginia-Highland. Today, you can still find gentle curves in the street at the Virginia Avenue and Highland Avenue intersection where the former trolley line used to be.

The early 20th century welcomed the development of Virginia-Highland’s key subdivisions, which include Highland View, North Boulevard Park, and Virginia Hills.
